In this informal chat Ksenia Ryzhkova, Principal Dancer of Bayerisches Staatsballett, and I exchange our impressions of the latest Premiere of a contemporary ballet "The Blizzard" created by Andrey Kaydanovskiy, after A. Pushkin's short novel of the same name which was presented to public per live streaming on 17 April 2021 and remains available as video on demand until 25 May 2021 on staatsoper.tv. Ksenia dances one of the leading characters of the novel and the ballet, Marja, and Jonah Cook, Ksenia's dance and also life partner, dances one of the main male roles, Marja's fiancé Vladimir. In this brief talk Ksenia also shares her personal "Ballet goes digital" experience dancing for cameras instead of live audience.
The poor sound quality is due to the fact that Ksenia is not only a quite solicited principal dancer, but also a young mother and is therefore not easy to catch. We recorded the video "on the run" in an improvised mode. I hope that the English subtitles will not only help to reach a bigger community with this piece of "Ballet goes digital" content, but can also serve as remedy :-)
